LILONGWE – Plans to put decent, affordable homes within reach of more Malawians picked up pace today when Second Vice President Right Hon. Enock Kanzingeni Chihana hosted Malawi Housing Corporation CEO Mr. Bob Chinkango at his office in City Centre.

The meeting was about action. How to build more houses, sooner. How to give ordinary people better ways to finance a home. And how to bring in private partners to help close Malawi’s housing gap under Malawi 2063.

The Second Vice President was direct. Housing is not a luxury anymore. “We are determined that every Malawian, no matter their income, should live in a decent and affordable home,” he said.

Mr. Chinkango outlined what MHC is already doing. The Corporation has new housing schemes on the table, including homes set aside for civil servants to boost welfare and keep people in public service. It is also pushing affordable housing models in cities and peri-urban areas, with flexible payment options so families can shift from renting to owning.

What came out of Lilongwe today was simple: less talk, more building. With government setting the direction and MHC delivering on the ground, shelter is being treated as what it is — a foundation for the Malawi we want to build.
